This August, Dillon Francis and Tiësto will be coming over to play at Utah’s hottest summer festival, Das Energi. Today, EDM mega-house V2 announced that the two will headline the 2016 installment of the annual festival, with the promise that this announcement was just the first in what is sure to make waves for our local music scene. In the past, the festival has played host to some of the biggest names in the music industry, such as Bassnectar, Benny Benassi, Hardwell and Adventure Club.
Dillon Francis began to make waves in the electronic music scene back in 2010 when he attracted attention from EDM powerhouse and Mad Decent label owner/creator Diplo. Francis found a quick rise to fame with the release of the duo’s collaborative track “Que Que” featuring Maluca. Within the next few years Francis would soon become one of the hottest acts in the world, with a residency at various clubs on the Las Vegas strip, headlining sets at worldwide festivals such as EDC and Ultra Music Festival, and successful world tours since 2013. Additionally, Francis has been named as an influential producer in the 2012/13 popularity of Moombahton, a sub-genre of EDM characterized by dancehall-esque beats with house and reggaeton influences.
Tiësto has perhaps one of the most consistently influential careers in dance music of all-time. Beginning his career over 20 years ago in 1994, the artist got his start by releasing tracks on Noculan Records’ sublabels, Chemo and Coolman, before moving on to found his own label, Black Hole Recordings in 1997. Having been called one of the primary influences in the success of Dutch house music, Tiësto found immense success and eventually went on to create countless albums, remixes and EP’s, as well as founding the popular radio show Tiësto’s Club Life. The Dutch artist was also named the #1 DJ in the world for three years in a row, from 2002 to 2004, performed live at the opening ceremony for the Athens Summer Olympics in 2004 and won a Grammy Award for his remix of John Legend‘s “All Of Me.”
Based off of the first phase of the lineup, Das Energi is not one to miss this August. As the summer comes to a close, add the setting sun over the Great Salt Lake while some of the worlds top acts take you home to your list of memories in 2016.
