Local event curators, New World, have announced their next Lunar Transit festival, which will take place on May 20-22 at Fort Buenaventura in Ogden, Utah. Beginning in 2014, New World started as a monthly event where artists of different mediums collaborated to create a futuristic experience through space and techno. Over the past three years, they’ve have established themselves as one of the biggest underground parties in Utah in recent years.
Separating themselves from the label of a “music festival,” New World tries to focus on creating a community for like-minded individuals to gather and establish meaningful connections in a creative environment. Throughout the year, the collective hosts parties in Downtown Salt Lake at various venues (more recently at The Fallout) where people can gather to listen to music, dance, socialize or hang out in their signature chill-space—an area filled with couches and tapestries, paired with cozy lighting and art. Additionally, they give local artists a chance to show their work, with a small vendor space at each event that’s usually comprised of crystals and various types of art.
In the past, New World events have played host to local musicians including crystalrœs, Eights Everywhere, Artemis, Red Spectral and Better Homes and Gardens. Additionally, the collective has brought in national acts like Sabo and Lonely Boy, who have also played at events like Desert Hearts and Burning Man. In a town with such a lively underground culture, New World and Lunar Transit are among the most meaningful and well thought out events available.
New World is taking applications from artists, performers, art installations, vendors, healers and Yoga instructors beginning February 1st for the spring Lunar Transit festival, and we look forward to hearing about updates on the lineup and art installations.
